Big Band Night

Sun, May. 29, 2016 7:30pm

If you’re a fan of classic swing music à la Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman etc., then you might like to know that regional big band, DGKollective are hosting their own swing night in Carlisle this coming Sunday, May 29th. Supported by Swing Dance Cumbria who offer classes in swing dance styles such as the Lindy Hop and Balboa, this is a night for both listeners and dancers. All are welcome to attend as it is sure to be a great night. The Masonic Hall on Portland Square in the town centre provides the ideal setting for this swing extravaganza with its sprung floor and bar.

DGKollective comprises players from around the region along with guest players and vocalists. The big band’s director, Andrew Turnbull says:

"This is the first concert of the year though the aim is to put on a bi-monthly big band night all the way up to Christmas. Cumbria has an active swing dance scene spearheaded by Swing Dance Cumbria and these nights provide yet another outlet for their social gatherings. They provide authentic dancing and we are providing authentic swing music. It should be a great night!"

Venue: The Masonic Hall, 10 Portland Square, Carlisle, CA1 1PY.
