Kris Garfitt | Trombone Recital, Spinkhill

Young trombonist, Kris Garfitt will perform a 90-minute recital with accompanist Tom Owen at 7.30pm on Monday 12th September in the theatre of Mount St Mary's College in Spinkhill, Chesterfield, S21 3YL.

The evening's programme explores a number of different styles and genres written for the trombone, from some beautiful early classical pieces on alto trombone all the way through to a concerto by film music composer Nina Rota as well as a couple of exciting contemporary pieces.

Kris graduated in July from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, with a First Class Honours Degree. During his time at Guildhall he has taken regular lessons with Eric Crees, Peter Gane, Christopher Houlding and Simon Wills. He is now taking regular lessons with Fabrice Millischer.

Kris has been lucky enough to be a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra and travel extensively throughout Europe, performing at places such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms. Kris is currently on trial for the second trombone position with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and was on trial for the second trombone position with the Orchestra of the English National Ballet for a year and a half. Kris is now working with these two orchestras plus regularly working with The Orchestra of Opera North and the Philharmonisches Orchester Freiburg (the orchestra of Freiburg theatre). He has worked with some of the best conductors in the world including the likes of Simon Rattle, Bernard Haitink, Vasily Petrenko and Gianandrea Noseda and undertaken masterclasses with many of the best trombonists in the world including Stefan Schulz, Olaf Ott, Jorgen Van Rijen, Michel Becquet, Nitzan Haroz, Matt Gee, Tobias Hasselt, Aline Nistad and James Maynard. He was also awarded first prize in Guildhall's Brass Prize (funded by the Armourers and Brasiers) in May of 2015.
