Peter Moore wins BBC final

Peter Moore has just been announced winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year 2008. The 12 year-old trombonist becomes only the third brass player to win the grand final against all the other instrument categories - the others are top London orchestral players David Pyatt (1988) and Mike Hext (1978).

In a thrilling final in the Wales Millenium Centre today, Peter won over the judges with Tomasi’s Trombone Concerto accompanied by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, as well as Sandström’s Sång til Lotta.

Peter was born in Belfast, and his parents were both French horn players in the Ulster Orchestra. Now living in Stalybridge, he studies at Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester.
