Don Lusher Competition

The British Trombone Society is re-launching the Don Lusher Competition this Autumn for young trombonists.

The last competition was a fantastic success with the winner Robbie Harvey praised by the judges Gordon Campbell, Bill Geldard and Jeremy Price. He was presented with a handsome trophy from Diana Lusher and a top of the range Yamaha trombone.

We are enormously grateful to Yamaha UK who have again agreed to donate one of their professional trombones as 1st prize as well as prizes for the runners up.

The competition is open to UK based trombone players under the age of 23. They will be required to submit recordings of “DL Blues” and “I loves you Porgy” by 20th January 2010.

A panel of top judges will select three finalists who will be invited to play at a major BTS event in 2010.

The competition is generously supported by Diana Lusher who will present the winner with the Don Lusher trophy.

The aim of the competition is to celebrate the wonderful playing of Don Lusher and to encourage young trombonists to explore the lyrical side of playing of which Don was so renowned.
