Holst's trombone practice causes a stir

"Gustav Holst was once ticked off by a Cotswold farmer for playing his trombone too loudly and making his sheep lamb early, newly found archive material shows."

The Daily Telegraph reported last week the tales of the young composer forced to make a living early on as a trombonist. Often unable to afford the rail fare from London back to his home in Cheltenham, he would make the journey by foot with the trombone slung over his back, stopping to practise for many hours in the fields and invoking the ire of this particular farmer.
