In June, the Freckleton Band is hosting Douglas Yeo and the Natural State Brass Band from the USA.

Douglas will be giving a clinic including a massed trombone blow, and is also guest soloist in the evening concert with the Freckleton Band and the NSBB, where the trombone group formed will also perform! Trombonists of all standards and ages are welcome to attend and perform!

Bones Apart in S. Wales

Bones Apart are heading to Wales in a few weeks time. As guests of the Risca Salvation Army, they will play in concert in Newport on Saturday 27th March. They have also been invited to Cardiff the day before by Kevin Price to present a workshop and recital at the RWCMD.

March 26 - 1pm Recital and Masterclass at RWCMD, Cardiff

March 27 - 7.30pm Guest Artists with the Risca Salvation Army Band, Newport, Wales 

 
Black Dyke Trombones in SE London

black_dyke_trombones1-150x150.jpgBrett Baker and the Black Dyke Trombone Quartet are leading a workshop and concert in Bromley, (South East London) on Saturday 20th March. Hosted by the Bromley Temple Salvation Army, the 'Trombone Focus Day', in association with the BTS, is open to all trombone players, regardless of whether they or not they are Salvationists, their age or ability.

The aim of the day is to inspire, motivate and encourage all trombonists in the Salvation Army London South East Division and beyond.

The cost of the day is £9 each, or £5 to BTS members, which includes a hot lunch, and tea & coffee etc during the day and entrance to the evening festival. Visitors also welcome to come and listen during the workshop. Please see updates page for details.

There will be a concert in the evening, featuring the Black Dyke Trombone Quartet, supported by Bromley Temple Band, which will also include participation of a trombone choir comprising of the delegates from the workshop.

Following the recent news that Brass Explosion was cancelled, the BTS is delighted to announce that a special trombone day takes its place. The Birmingham Conservatoire opens its doors to trombonists everywhere, for a spectacular day for trombonists of all abilities. 
 
The day will be packed with workshops, competitions and a host of exciting events to include:
 
Massed Trombone choir directed by Bob Hughes 
 
Don Lusher solo trombone competition sponsored by Yamaha UK
 
Celebrity recital
 
Jazz stars, Jeremy Price, Gordon Campbell, Pete Beachill
 
CBSO Low Brass Section
 
Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Band with soloists

Dennis Rollins has been awarded a Visiting Professorship at Leeds College of Music.

Philip Meaden, Principal, Leeds College of Music, said:
The Committee acknowledged [Dennis’] international profile as a trombone player, composer, arranger and producer.  [His] recent workshop with Leeds College of Music students was extremely well-received; both students and staff found [his] work inspirational and of great benefit.

South-West London has a jazz treat coming up in a couple of weeks, with five trombones and rhythm led by Mark Nightingale playing a night at the Richmond & Twickenham Jazz Club.

Tnightingale.jpghe 'Rosetta Bones' are: Mark Nightingale, Chris Lowe, Lee Hallam, Geoff Baxter and Jimmy Adams,with rhythm section consisting of Nick Ramm on piano, NickWalsh on double bass and Nick Smalley on drums. They'll be playing arrangements by Kai Winding, Mark Nightingale, Bob Florence, Alan Hare and Chris Lowe.
