BTS Composers' Competition 2024

Applications are invited for

The British Trombone Society Composers' Competition 2024

The Competition is to be judged by Callum Au (Composer, Arranger, Orchestrator and Trombonist), Dan Jenkins (Composers and Sub-Principal Trombone of BBC Symphony Orchestra) and Alex Paxton (Composer and improvising jazz trombonist).

The Prize

WINNER

The winner will receive the British Trombone Society Trophy and the winning work will be published by Warwick Music Publishing.

RUNNERS UP

Two runners up will each receive a one hour composition lesson with a judge

Entry Details

Applicants are to submit an original composition for 8-part trombone ensemble, of no more than 8 minutes in duration. The work may be written for all members of the trombone family (soprano, alto, tenor, bass and contrabass). No percussion or electronics are to be employed.

 Applications close Saturday, 15 June 2024.

 

General Conditions

  • The Competition is open to composers of all nationalities.
  • Compositions must be for 8-part trombone ensemble and no more than 8 minutes in duration. The work may be written for all members of the trombone family (soprano, alto, tenor, bass and contrabass). No percussion or electronics
  • Completed works are to be submitted in the form of either a Sibelius or Musescore file, attached to the completed registration form, no later than midnight (BST) Saturday, 15 June, 2024
  • In addition, audio files, midi or live, may also be attached to the submission. The quality of playing or recording will not influence the judges’ decision.
  • Submissions must be original works and compositions submitted to previous BTS Composers competitions will not be accepted.
  • Submitted audio files will remain the property of the BTS.
  • The winner will be announced on Thursday, 1 August, 2024.
  • The decision of the judges is final and binding, there is no right of appeal.
ENTRANCE FEES:

Entry is free of charge.
