The competition is to be judged by Callum Au (Composer, Arranger, Orchestrator and Trombonist), Benjamin Ellin (Award-winning and critically acclaimed British conductor, composer and co-founder and Musical Director of De Mowbray Music) and Mark Nightingale (Trombonist, composer and arranger).
The winning composition will be published by Warwick Music and will be recorded.
Two runners-up will receive a one-hour composition lesson each with either Callum Au or Benjamin Ellin.
The competition is open to anyone.
Compositions must be for an octet of trombones and shall be no more than eight minutes in duration. The work may be written for all members of the Trombone Family (soprano, alto, tenor, bass and contrabass). No percussion or electronics!
Submissions must be original works. Compositions submitted to previous BTS Composers’ Competitions will not be accepted.
Completed works are to be submitted in the form of a Sibelius or MuseScore file attached to the application form. In addition, audio files, midi or live, may also be attached (the quality of playing or recording will not influence the judges’ decision).
The competition will open for submissions on Monday, 29 May 2023.
The deadline for the submission of works is midnight on Monday, 24 July 2023.
The winner will be announced on Monday, 14 August 2023.
The winning composition may be performed at a future BTS Event.
