ITA competitions

Young trombonists looking to make their mark internationally shouldconsider entering the competitions run by the International TromboneAssociation. The judges are carefully selected from the cream of theworld's trombonists: last year included the likes of Jiggs Wigham, DonLucas, Bill Reichenbach, Brett Baker, Jonas Bylund and Gordon Campbell.

Entry is by recording, due in 5th December 2008, and finalists will be invited to compete at the ITF in Denmark next June.

The different categories cover a number of categories, includingclassical, jazz, orchestral, alto/tenor/bass trombones, quartet andlarge ensemble. There are competitions designed for trombonists up tothe age of 18, 23, 25 and the quartet competition now includes playersup to 28 years old.

There have been a number of British winners in past years across thecategories and it's a fascinating to compare the different approachesfrom players around the world.
