Music is a universal language, capable of speaking to people of all different cultures, regardless of their mother tongue. But like any language it embraces a whole host of accents, dialects and colloquialisms, and the coming together of these cultural idiosyncrasies in the crucible of composition is often a source of inspiration and invention.
This programme explores the meeting of musical mores, and music’s universal affect in works by Handel, Ravel and Shostakovich.
Concert followed at 2.30pm by a free public masterclass, at which student performers from Canterbury Christ Church will be coached.
