BTS Alto Trombone Competition 2024

Applications are invited for

The British Trombone Society Alto Trombone Competition 2024 sponsored by Jürgen Voigt.

Open to trombonists aged 30 and below, the competition will consist of two rounds; a preliminary round where applicants must submit an unedited audio recording and a final live round which will take place at the British Trombone Festival 2024, held at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.


Three finalists will be chosen from the preliminary round to take part in the live final on Saturday, 26 October.

Entry Details

PRELIMINARY ROUND

Applicants are to submit an unedited audio (mp3) recording of the Trombone Concerto by Georg Christoph Wagenseil.

Copies are available from  June Emerson Wind Music priced at £16.45 inc. postage. BTS members can use the discount code on the benefits page.

Applications close Monday, 1 July 2024.

FINAL ROUND

Finalists will perform Trombone Concerto by Georg Christoph Wagenseil and excerpts from the orchestral repertoire.

Excerpts will be sent to finalists after 1 August, 2024.

 

General Conditions

  • The Competition is open to trombonists of all nationalities.
  • Entrants must be aged 30 years or under on Saturday, 26 October, 2024 to be eligible to participate in the competition.
  • Overseas entrants selected as finalists must ensure that appropriate visas have been obtained before the date of the final.
  • Entrants must submit an unedited mp3 file, attached to the completed registration form, no later than midnight (BST) Saturday, 15 June, 2024.
  • To maintain impartiality, audio files must not include the names of the performer or accompanist, or any other identifying features.
  • Submitted mp3 files will remain the property of the BTS.
  • Finalists will be notified by the Thursday, 1 August, 2024.
  • Finalists must be available to perform at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, 200 Jennens Road, Birmingham, B4 7XR on Saturday, 26 October 2024 as part of the British Trombone Festival.
  • Final round performances are open to the public.
  • Travel expenses to and from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire will not be paid.
  • A piano accompanist will be provided.
