BTS Composers' Competition 2021

The British Trombone Society is pleased to announce the 2021 Competition for Composers of Music for the Trombone.

The competition is to be judged by Mark Nightingale (internationally acclaimed jazz soloist, highly respected writer, and one of the UK’s most in demand studio musicians), Dominic Sewell (Composer and orchestrator with over twenty years experience across a wide range of genres including TV, Film, Theatre and TV commercials.) and Rob Wiffin (Trombonist, Conductor, Composer, Arranger, Professor of Conducting at the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall, and also teaches conducting for the Royal Air Force Music Services and postgraduate conducting, composition and arranging at the London College of Music).

The Prize

1st Prize: A Dorico Pro Licence, Recording and Publication of your work.

The Composition will be published by Warwick Music.

2nd Prize: A Two-Hour Composition Lesson

3rd Prize: A One-Hour Composition Lesson

Entry Details

The competition is open to anyone.

Compositions may be for any combination of instruments up to a total of eight players featuring trombones, and must be no more than 15 minutes in duration.

Submissions must be original works or arrangements for trombone of works by other composers.

Completed works are to be submitted in the form of a PDF Score and may be uploaded via the Application Form or emailed to the Administrator: administrator@britishtrombonesociety.org

In addition, audio files, midi or live, may also be included (the quality of playing or recording will not influence the judges' decision).

The deadline for the submission of works is Sunday, 31 October 2021.

The winner will be announced on Sunday, 12 December 2021.

The winning composition may be performed at a future BTS Event.
