2012 BTS trombone events

The British Trombone Society announces star soloists at 2012 events. The British Trombone Society is offering its most ambitious series of workshop days and concerts since its formation in 1985 to help launch its first CD, Fanfare, recorded in July 2011 in Birmingham Conservatoire, and also to feature winners of the recent Composers’ Competition.

Sunday 29 January: Yorkshire and Gloucestershire

On Sunday 29 January, events will take place in both Yorkshire and Gloucestershire. The event in Yorkshire at the University of Huddersfield will feature students from the University of Huddersfield and the University Brass Band conducted by Philip McCann, Adrian Hirst (bass trombone, Black Dyke Band), Stephen Lomas, Leyland Band, Danny Brooks (principal trombone, Brighouse and Rastrick Band), Davur Juul Magnussen (principal trombone, Royal Scottish National Orchestra), Rebecca Lundberg (principal trombone,Carlton Maine Frickley), the trombone quartet of the Band of the Yorkshire Regiment, and the Black Dyke Trombone Quartet. In Gloucestershire, following on from last year’s successful event in the Forest of Dean College, there will be an event at:Tewksbury Secondary School, Ashchurch Road, GL20 8DF, featuring Mark Templeton (principal trombone, London Philharmonic Orchestra) and Bones Apart. Saturday 4 February, Bristol

In Bristol, the Salvation Army Hall at Bristol Easton will host a workshop day and evening concert featuring the trombone quartet of Trombonanza, Stephen Sykes (previously principal trombone, Tredegar Band), winner of the BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Soloist Award and the BTS Don Lusher Award in 2010, Rhiannon Symonds, an amazing young trombone player and finalist in the Ambition AXA Awards last year. BTS President Brett Baker (principal trombone, Black Dyke Band) will be running the day and playing in an evening concert along with Stephen Sykes and the Bristol Easton Brass Band of the Salvation Army. Sunday 12 February, Salford and Northern Ireland

Sunday 12 February sees events taking place in Salford University and Northern Ireland. Davur Juul Magnussen (principal trombone, Royal Scottish National Orchestra) will be the featured artist at the Portadown event organised by Stephen Cairns, whic includes massed ensemble playing and workshops throughout the day.Contact Stephen Cairns to pre-register (This email address is being protected from spambots. The workshop day is at Bann House, Portadown, Northern Ireland.

At the Peel Hall in Salford, Greater Manchester, international jazz soloist Jiggs Wiggam will be the featured artist, as well as students from the University of Salford, Alastair Burrowes, Brett Baker. The event features workshops, massed trombone ensemble and a lecture recital, and an improvised session at the Pint Pot Public House near Peel Hall at 6.00pm. Leicester Grammar School will host a BTS event featuring Chris Jeans (GUS Band), Brett Baker (Black Dyke Band), Stephen Lomas (bass trombone, Leyland Band), Danny Brooks (principal trombone,Brighouse and Rastrick Band), Marcus Reynolds, Matthew Gee (principal trombone, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), the Black Dyke Trombone Quartet and Paul Woodward (co-principal trombone, Black Dyke Band).
