BTS Tenor Trombone Competition 2026

Applications are invited for
The British Trombone Society Tenor Trombone Competition 2026.

Open to trombonists aged 25 and below, the competition will consist of two rounds; a preliminary round where applicants must submit an unedited audio recording and a final live round which will take place at the British Trombone Festival 2026, held at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

Three finalists will be chosen from the preliminary round to take part in the live final on Saturday, 24 October.

Entry Details

PRELIMINARY ROUND

Applicants are to submit an unedited audio (mp3) recording of "Fantasia for Trombone" by Dan Jenkins

Copies are available from Warwick Music Publishing priced at £5.99 (download).

Applications close 10 August 2026.

FINAL ROUND

Finalists will perform "Fantasia for Trombone" by Dan Jenkins at the British Trombone Festival held at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire on 24 October 2026.

General Conditions

  • The Competition is open to trombonists of all nationalities.
  • Entrants must be aged 30 years or under on 31 October 2026 to be eligible to participate in the competition.
  • Overseas entrants selected as finalists must ensure that appropriate visas have been obtained before the date of the final.
  • Entrants must submit an unedited mp3 file, attached to the completed registration form, no later than midnight (BST) on 10 August, 2026.
  • To maintain impartiality, audio files must not include the names of the performer or accompanist, or any other identifying features.
  • Submitted MP3 files will remain the property of the BTS.
  • Finalists will be notified by 24 August, 2026
  • Finalists must be available to perform at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, 200 Jennens Road, Birmingham, B4 7XR on Saturday, 24 October 2026 as part of the British Trombone Festival.
  • Final round performances are open to the public.
  • Travel expenses to and from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire will not be paid.
  • A piano accompanist will be provided.
